Welp, here I am during the grueling process of twisting and pinning ribbon all along the bottom of this dress. It’s very time consuming! But relatively easy to do after you get the hang of it. Basically, I’ve made 4 folds on each chain (2 on top and 2 at the bottom) to get the general shape. Each is link is approx. 2″ x 2″.
I used copper colored satin ribbon for both the bottom trim and chains, bought on Etsy from “Herlovelyribbon”. I used 3″ ribbon for the bottom trim, which is folded under 1″ and I use 1/2″ ribbon to create the chain links. I actually had to sew all the 1/2" ribbon in half to make it all 1/4″ wide. I did this because the 1/2″ looked too bulky and the store I ordered from doesn’t offer 1/4″.
You will need about 5 yards of the larger riboon and 7 yards of the smaller ribbon to go all the way around the dress. I orignally ordered only 5 yds of the 1/2″ and ran out. Luckily, they shipped it fast and I received the rest of what I needed within a week.
